Pirat Studios

I lead the narrative design and game writing for Pirat Studios.  The studio is currently working on its first title: Last Meal Standing, a multiplayer ragdoll-brawler.

For this game, I worked closely with the Game Director to create the characters and their dialogue/barks. I see my job as ensuring that players find these characters engaging enough to keep on playing them. Fun and unpredictability is key for a party-style game, and writing can contribute to this through great dialogue as well as distinct characterization.  Like your favourite cartoon, Last Meal Standing should be the gift that keeps on giving even when you know what the story will be!

I loved writing for a multiplayer, live environment because it’s hard to predict what players will do. So from a story point-of-view, the task is to create a story framework that makes sense under many different player scenarios.  For me, the key to this is character.  Create characters whose motivations, rivalries and viewpoints are clear, and then pit them against each other randomly. The possibilities are endless.
